- Off-Page SEO
Here, we’ll understand the complete On-Page SEO process and identify the key problems that need to be done for optimizing a web page.
What Is On-Page SEO?
On-Page SEO is the practice of optimizing individual web pages in order to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines. On-page refers to both the content and HTML source code of a page that can be optimized, as opposed to off-page SEO which refers to links and other external signals.
Why Do You Need On-Page Optimization?
If you’re practicing SEO for better ranking and traffic generation, then On-Page SEO techniques will make a big difference to your website. Beyond helping search engines interpret page content, proper on-site SEO also helps users quickly and clearly understand what a page is about and whether it addresses their search query. In essence, good on-site SEO helps search engines understand what a human would see (and what value they would get) if they visited a page so that search engines can reliably serve up what human visitors would consider high-quality content about a particular search query.
Now, Google does not depend on On-Page SEO factors for ranking, it depends on other factors too. The other factors like social media signals (shares, likes, tweets, follows, etc.), backlinks, domain authority, and many other off-page metrics.
How Do You Optimize On-Page SEO Techniques?
Fully optimizing a page on your website requires both text- and HTML-based changes.
On-Page SEO Factors:
There are several factors that affect Search Engine Ranking. These includes:
- Content on Page: Content is considered to be a King in Digital Marketing. Without content, you cannot trigger any keyword and your search results will not be visible. The content of a page is what makes it worthy of a search result position. It is what the user came to see and is thus extremely important to the search engines. As such, it is important to create good content.
- Blog Post Title: Title is the most important factor. You should keep your blog post title catchy, attractive and SEO optimized. The more catchy title will be, the more click you blog receive. And, the more click you get, the better the rank you achieve.
- Permalink Structure: The URL clearly shows the hierarchy of the information on the page. This information is used to determine the relevancy of a given web page by the search engines. You should use your target keyword in the URL, and avoid using special characters, symbols, brackets, commas, etc. within the actual URL. Use dashes to differentiate the strings in your URL structure. These are called “pretty” permalinks and are supported by most web browsers. The good permalink structure is shown like this: https://www.domain.com/post-title-seperated-by-dashes
- Heading Tags: Heading Tags are used to highlight the important headings, sub-headings in a content. In WordPress, by default, the Title tag is set as an H1 tag. There are 6 types of heading tags – H1 to H6. Try using H2 or H3 tags for better results. Do not try to use many heading tags in a blog post.
- Keyword Density: Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page. In the context of search engine optimization, keyword density can be used to determine whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase. Try using your keywords density up to 1% – 2% with a use of LSI keywords (LSI – Latent Semantic Indexing).
- Meta Tags: Meta tags have been the important element of SEO. Meta tags are used to search engine robots to understand about the webpage. Meta tags are not visible to users. The search engines still read them for it to have a simple, summarized idea of what your site is about and what exactly your keywords are. Meta tags are located inside your HTML head area. <head>Meta tags are located here</head>
You can use three (3) types of Meta Tags in your web page:
- Title tags: It is the tag that displays Title in the search engines.
- Description tags: Here you display a summary of your web page.
- Keywords tags: The meta keywords tag is where you put all of the keywords you use on your site.
- Images: Images are important to retain your audience. A better-optimized image will load faster and helps search engines to understand the image. Keywords in the “image title” and the “alt text” help to make your blog post more focused and targeted. The better the image, the more engagement will be there.
- Internal Linking: Yes, internal linking is very useful for your website. Internal linking is the related blog links, which will redirect you to another page of the same blog. By this, users retain more and more time to read your blog articles.
- External Linking: External linking refers to the practice of redirecting users to another blog.
For example, if you’re reading articles on www.abc.com and after clicking on a link, you’re redirected to another blog – www.xyz.com. While linking out to external websites, you should link to trusted websites only. And if you have doubts about the authority or popularity of a website, you can use a nofollow tag to avoid passing your link juice to potentially bad sites.
