  • Android was not developed by Google, It is a company which was founded by Andy Rubin in 2003.Actually, Google bought the company Android Inc in 2005 and made Andy Rubin as a head of Android.
  • Before the Android was purchased by Google or when Google was about to take over on Android in 2005, the Android Inc, was going about to close as there were no funds in the company as it was very difficult for the owners of Android Inc. to carry out everyday business operations. The Steve Perlman , friend of Andy Rubin and the technology legends helped them to save by providing the needed fund.
  • The first prototype of Android introduced looks like Blackberry with QWERTY keypad and with no touchscreen and it is only design to compete with Blackberry which was on top in the market in 2007.
  • Android0 and 1.1 first and second version were not named as Android named their version on desserts in an alphabetical order like IcecreamSandwitch, Jellybean, Kitkat Lollypop, Marshmallow etc but the first two versions were nameless till the version Cupcake was introduced which is 1.5 version.
  • Android 3.0 Version Honeycomb  is the only version to never run on phones, as it was built to introduced in tablet phones, it was launched in Motorola XOOM tablet with redesigned tablet interface but it failed as it did not worked on all screen sizes. The remaining lasting feature of Honeycomb which is currently used is nav Buttons.
  • Android is a Linux based Operating system which was launched in 2007.
  • HTC dream is the first smartphone which allows to run the Android Operating system which was released in 2008.
  • Google purchased Android Inc in $50 Million in 2005.
  • Each of Android versions is in alphabetical order : Cupcake, Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, IcecreamSandwitch, Jellybean, Kitkat, Lollypop, Marshmallow and the latest one is Nougat.
  • Android is an open source platform for developers so that they can modify source code of the Operating system as per their needs and they can add new features to the android operating system.
  • The meaning of the term ‘Android’ is Human with an appearance of Robot.
  • Google released its own Android operating systemmobile phone in 2010,however it was developed by HTC. But the Google Nexus One wasn’t so well received.
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab which was debuted in 2010 with the version Froyo with 7 inch screen and later in 2011 it came bigger with the version Honeycomb(only version which was made for Tablets).
  • Google launched its own tablet as a manufactor running Android Jelly Bean operating system as its own brand with 7 inch screen and was cheaper in comparsion to other tablets in the market that time in 2007. This tablet named as NEXUS 7.
  • Android Inc, Before Google took over on it, it was initially developed only for digital camera devices.
  • Android devices are currently powered in more than 190+ countries and it is the world largest selling worldwide of any mobile platform as an operating system.
  • Android versions naming refers to change in API levels.
  • Currenly over one billion devices activated which have Android OS.
  • Android has vast number of applications than its competitors like Apple or Windows. It currently offers more than 1.5 million applications and it increases rapidly day by day.
  • Android Logo was created by Graphic designer Irina Blok as the name of the term Android means ‘A Robot’ so she and her designing team watched movies about space and studies sci-fi toys for inspiration to design a logo and finally they came up with little green robot with unisex tin like shaped body.
